Born in Mairi, a small town in the interior of Bahia, Brazil where there are no movie theaters to this day, Muritiba was already an adult when he first plunged into the darkness of a theater to watch a movie. The son of a truck driver and a housewife, the filmmaker studied History in S\u00e3o Paulo, and later moved to Curitiba, where, without finding a job, he applied for a job in the State Justice System, where he worked as a jailer for seven years. While still working as a jailer, Muritiba learned that he could have his working hours in the public service credited if he was enrolled in some college course. He then went to study Cinema and, between one class and another, decided to merge the two worlds through which he passed: that of jail and that of the art of filmmaking. This is how his Prison Trilogy was born, made up of two short films and a documentary feature, projects that served as a release from prison life and the gateway to his cinematographic career.<\/p>

With stints at Sundance<\/strong><\/em> (\"Rust,\" 2018), Venice<\/strong><\/em> (\"Tarantula,\" 2015, \"Private Desert\" 2021) San Sebastian<\/strong><\/em> (\"To My Dead Beloved,\" 2015, \"Rust,\" 2018) and Cannes - Critics Week<\/em><\/strong> (\u201cP\u00e1tio\u201d, 2013), os filmes escritos e dirigidos por Aly Muritiba j\u00e1 conquistaram mais de 200 pr\u00eamios em festivais de cinema. Para canais de TV e streaming, Muritiba dirigiu as s\u00e9ries \u201cO Hipnotizador\u201d \u2013 S02 (HBO), \u201cCarcereiros\u201d S02 (Globo), \u201cIrm\u00e3os Freitas\u201d (Turner), \u201cIrmandade\u201d (Netflix), \u201cO Caso Evandro\u201d (Globoplay), \u201cCanga\u00e7o Novo\u201d(Amazon Prime) e Cidade de Deus: A Luta N\u00e3o Para (HBO Max).<\/p>

In 2013 his short film \"The Factory\" was on the Oscar shortlist. Oscar<\/strong><\/em>In 2021, in addition to directing \"The Evandro Case,\" the true crime series nominated for International Emmy Awards<\/strong><\/em>Aly released the feature films \"Jesus Kid\", (best direction and screenplay in the Festival de Gramado<\/strong><\/em>) e \u201cDeserto Particular\u201d (pr\u00eamio de p\u00fablico no Festival de Veneza<\/strong><\/em> e representante brasileiro na corrida do Oscar de 2022). Em 2022 dirigu seu s\u00e9timo longa-metragem “Barba Ensopada de Sangue” uma adapta\u00e7\u00e3o do livro de Daniel Galera. Em 2024, dirigiu “Funk”, filme selecionado no 2026 Tribeca Festival. <\/strong><\/em>Em 2025, dirigiu “America” uma coprodu\u00e7\u00e3o Brasil-EUA filmada na cidade de Los Angeles.
